Easy Social Media Planning with the Content Bucket Method - Organic Wedding Vendor Marketing

Social Media Bucket

Have you ever sat down on your phone, or at the computer, with 5 minutes to spare for some posting on your socials, and realised you didn't know what to post that day?

Content buckets, or content themes, are a great way to help you plan and create content and put it together in an engaging and practical social media plan for your business.

One of the biggest mistakes that small businesses make on their socials is talking about themselves on their channel all day. Your audience wants to know about you, sure, but what else is there that you can talk about? This is where the content bucket method comes in, it will help you diversify your content and share information that is relevant and helpful for your audiences.

Think about what your audiences are interested in, other than your business. As an exercise write down a whole list of potential topics. Some of these will then become your content buckets. The idea is to make all of your content as interesting as possible for your audiences so they follow you. This is the essence of organic wedding vendor marketing.

Let's run through a few examples that can help, and some of the 'compulsory' buckets.

Promoting your business

Let's start here, because this is the one you're most likely already doing! We don't want to get caught up in everything else and forget to promote our business at all, but in general an 80/20 rule applies. 80% of the time, provide useful and engaging content to your audience, and 20% of the time share promotions, let people know how to work with you, and give options for calls to action.

This bucket can include:

  • Information about products and services

  • Product launches

  • Special offers

  • Event invitations (an expo, or a webinar for example)

Don't be scared to invite people to work with you, but make sure theres another reason for them to look at your page as well!

Authority Content

This is a big one, and one of the most popular content types! In fact you're reading it right now. Authority content is designed to share tips and knowledge, in order to build your credibility with the audience. This content lets you demonstrate expertise in your field, and provides value to your readers even if they don't buy anything from you.

This bucket can include:

  • Wedding planners: Expert tips for seamless wedding planning

  • Caterers: Planning the perfect menu for a winter wedding

  • Florist: Decoding floral trends for 2024

User Generated Content

UGC is content that other people have published about you. This could be someone sharing a picture of your work, or your products in use. Oftentimes during or after a wedding a couple, or a guest will share pictures they have taken, or they will share the professional photos and videos that they received.

Whether you're a florist, a celebrant, a venue, a HMU, a caterer or any of the dozens of other vendors that are involved in a wedding day, sharing this content is a great form of social proof, as well as encouraging participation from all the other vendors that were there on that day. If you're a photographer or videographer, sharing a post from a couple who has posted your work is often times a much greater endorsement than posting it yourself.

You can also encourage UGC by way of competitions, or asking your clients if they'd like to share something about your product on their socials. User generated content is especially powerful because you have other people talking about how amazing you are - similar to customer reviews

Industry News and Trends

In this bucket we are going to be sharing information about the latest news in your industry. What are the latest trends? What does the future look like? What's happening right now that might interest your audience?

This bucket can include:

  • Venues: Top venue design trends for 2024 weddings

  • DJ/Entertainment: Trending songs for 2024

  • Bridal Boutique: The hottest bridal fashion trends for the upcoming wedding season

Behind the Scenes

Behind the scenes content is one of the most popular content buckets. People LOVE seeing behind the scenes of a business because it shows your humanity - make sure you keep it real because thats the whole point of content like this.

This type of content introduces team members, showing your audience your workspace, touring through your office, or pictures of your team out to dinner.

As well as showing off personalities, BTS content can also show off your process for your work, whether that be editing photos, putting together flowers, or decorating a cake.

An extra tip would be to offer a way of interacting with this content. BTS content is showing us off as real people, and our audience loves to interact with real people.

Curated Content from Other Sources

Stuck for ideas? No content in the pipeline at the moment? Good news! You don't need to create all of your content yourself. There's so much amazing content out there already that people all over the world have spend hours creating.

Look for great content from publications, industry insiders, bloggers, influencers, and so on. Reshare the best of this content, and tag the source that you got it from!

When you share other peoples content, personalise it by adding your perspective on the topic as well, so people can get to know your thoughts on industry issues and opinions.
